Like A Greenhouse In A Hostile Climate
Living Under Heaven’s Climate Regardless of Earth’s Conditions
Have you ever heard of a greenhouse?
No, I’m not referring to greenhouse gases that contribute to environmental pollution. I mean the kind of greenhouse used in agriculture.
A greenhouse is a transparent, sheltered structure, often made of glass or plastic, covered on all sides, including the roof. It creates a microclimate where temperature, humidity, and light can be carefully controlled, enabling the growth of crops that might otherwise struggle in the natural environment.
In simple terms: plants inside a greenhouse experience a completely different climate than those outside it.
Here are two key benefits of a greenhouse:
You can grow crops in hostile environments.
For example, plants native to cooler regions like Europe or America can be cultivated in tropical climates like Nigeria using greenhouse technology.
You can grow crops all year round.
Without a greenhouse, many crops are seasonal. But inside a greenhouse, growing continues regardless of external weather conditions. It gives the farmer control over seasons.
In essence, a greenhouse offers a powerful advantage. It allows you to thrive when others are merely trying to survive. While plants outside are drying out under harsh conditions, those inside the greenhouse remain lush, protected, and productive.
As I reflect on this, I realize the Bible is full of greenhouse scenarios; times and places where God's people thrived despite unfavorable conditions.
Consider these:
Goshen
While Egypt was plagued by darkness, disease, and disaster, the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, was untouched. It was a divine greenhouse. (See Exodus 8–10.)
Isaac in Gerar
During a time of famine, Isaac sowed in the land and reaped a hundredfold. He became wealthy while others struggled. That wasn’t just good luck; that was a greenhouse effect. (Genesis 26:1–14)
The world today is going through one of the most challenging times in history. Economies are shaking, systems are failing, and many are struggling just to survive.
But you don’t have to live under the same conditions as the world around you.
You can be a greenhouse.
You can experience Goshen in Egypt.
You can thrive in the midst of famine.
Let the Lord build a covering around your life, a climate of divine preservation, provision, and peace.
May your life, family, ministry, business, and profession become like a greenhouse in this generation—flourishing when others are fading, fruitful when others are barren.
Stay under His covering. Stay in His will. Stay rooted in His Word. And while the world dries out, may you remain green.
