A Friend In War
A lot of people will stick around when all is well with you but true friends are known when you face the heat of life.
When Jehoshaphat visited Ahab in Samaria, "Ahab killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people who were with him" (2 Chronicles 18:2).
But then, Ahab had a war to fight and he requested, "Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?”
Jehoshaphat's response was profound. He said, "I am as you are, and my people as your people; WE WILL BE WITH YOU IN THE WAR” (verse 3).
Jehoshaphat wasn't just a friend when it was time to dine and wine; he was a friend in war.
A lot of people will stick around when all is well with you but true friends are known when you face the heat of life.
As the Yoruba adage says, "The world will lick your fingers when they are dipped in palm oil but not when they are dipped in the blood."
Life happens. Seasons change. Somewhere along the line, each of us will have some war to fight.
May we never lack friends who will be with us in the war. And may we be burden bearers like Ruth who will go all the way with Naomi even when the future is bleak.
May your spouse be a friend in war. May God send you helpers at this critical season of your life because it is lonely when you have to deal with it all alone!
Good morning
