7 Indispensable Tools for an Effective Daily Devotion
Make sure that even if you didn’t “enjoy” your time with God, it is not because you failed to prepare.
One of the reasons you might find your daily time with God boring is the absence of the required tools for a refreshing experience.
When you don’t come to God’s presence with the required tools, it is like going to the farm without your hoe and cutlass.
You want to make sure that even if you didn’t “enjoy” your time with God, it is not because you failed to prepare.
Here are seven indispensable tools for an effective devotion;
1. A Prepared Heart.
Yes! Your heart is the most important tool for an effective devotion.
It doesn’t matter what other tool you bring along, you are not likely to have a great time in God’s presence if your heart is not ready.
2. A Bible or Bible App.
Obviously, you cannot possibly do without God’s word.
Your Bible is the tool that gives you access to the mind of God. It is your ultimate tool for renewing your mind as you read and meditate in it.
3. A Bible Reading Guide.
Except a portion of the scriptures has been ministered to you, a Bible reading guide helps you save time used in trying to find where to read for the day.
You also need a Bible readinget guide if reading through the Bible or part of the Bible is part of your plan.
4. A Study Guide or Devotional.
Though I often encourage people to go directly to the Bible and get inspiration from God.
However, a study guide or devotional can be of great help especially if you are new in the faith.
It guides your thought and helps you get insight into the mind of God.
5. A Notebook or Journal.
This will be used to take personal notes and insights given to you by the Holy Spirit as you meditate and pray.
Having a journal shows that you expect God to speak to you when you come into His presence.
6. A Good Pen and a Marker.
A bad pen could destabilize your time of devotion. So ensure that the pen you take to God’s presence is good.
Also, a marker helps you to highlight important verses of the Bible that ministers to you or important insights written down in your journal.
7. A Hymn Book.
There is virtually no theme or topic of the Christian faith that doesn’t have matching hymns.
As you read, meditate in the word and pray, you might need to express the burdens of your heart through songs.
Singing hymns is one of the best way to do it.
