3 Prayer Points to Ignite Your Spirit
A consistent prayer life is often a product of continuous encounters with revelation from God's Word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
It is impossible to maintain a fervent spiritual life without a consistent prayer life. A consistent prayer life is often a product of continuous encounters with revelation from God's Word and the Holy Spirit. You will be bored by prayer if it is not driven by the revealed word of God and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
I want to share three prayer points with you that I believe will ignite your spirit.
Prayer One
Lord, purge me of everything hindering spiritual hunger and thirst.
Just as constant experience of hunger and thirst are signs of physical health so are spiritual hunger and thirst signs of spiritual health. Once you no longer have a desire for the things of God, you need God to attend to you and heal you.
The lack of desire for spiritual things is often because we are already filled with something else. We have found satisfaction or delight in something else.
Imagine someone bringing a plate of well-cooked jollof rice with chicken and chilled yoghurt to you after you have filled your belly with Garri and sugar. You will really want to devour the delicacy but it won't be easy because you are already filled.
This perhaps explains why you find it difficult to pray, fast or sit down with God's word and meditate. You know you need to do these things. You desire to do them but cannot bring yourself to do them. When you eventually try to do them, you cannot stay for a reasonable time because there is no desire.
Luke 5:39 says,
"And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’ ” NKJV
God has a lot in store for you but it will take hunger and thirst to command the release. You need to be in that state of strong desire in order to enjoy spiritual blessings truly. As you pray, watch out for habits and lifestyles that can quench spiritual desire. Avoid overindulgence and addiction to things like movies, social media, football and the like.
May God rekindle the flickering spiritual fire in your spirit in Jesus' name. Amen
Prayer Two
Lord, repair every damaged spiritual facility within me so that I can start doing the things I used to do again.
When we backslide or fall into sin, critical spiritual facilities are destroyed. We often lose our ability to do certain things that we used to do.
Take Samson, for example. His infidelity with Delilah led to the shaving of his hair. Consequently, he lost his special ability to carry our supernatural things.
There are believers who used to have a serious depth of insight when they open the Bible. There are people who used to have the inspiration to write songs. You used to have this special ability to see visions, interpret dreams or perform miracles but something happened and it is now lost.
Saul had a similar experience. The Spirit of God left him after he disobeyed God's instruction for the second time. What I find amusing about Saul's case is how the Spirit of God left quietly. The reason some of us think we are getting away with our life of disobedience is the seeming absence of immediate consequence.
The effect of your disobedience may not be as obvious as that of Samson or Saul but you cannot remain the same in the spirit each time you walk in disobedience. Something with respect to your spiritual vitality is destroyed.
But unlike that of Saul, Samson had a little space of grace. Judges 16:22 says, “However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven.” This is exactly what I see God doing for you. Irrespective of what has led to the loss of your spiritual vitality, I see your hair growing again as you return, repent and pray.
God will repair and restore every critical spiritual facility that you have lost in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
Prayer Three
Lord, install new spiritual capacities within me so that I can begin to do things I have never done before.
Most of us are underutilizing our phones. We don't know the capacity of that phone until we come across apps or software that gives new power or ability to our phones.
This was exactly what happened to Saul, the son of Kish. He was an ordinary errand boy but when Saul experienced an installation of a new spiritual capacity to prophesy after the encounter he had with Samuel, the Bible says people began to ask if Saul was among the prophets (1 Samuel 10:11).
This is what happens to you when the Lord installs into you a new spiritual capacity. The problem is you are so satisfied or comfortable with what you are experiencing now. You seem to assume that this is the best of God you can experience. There are more, friends. There are heights and depths in God you have never experienced.
Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard neither has it come to the hearts of men, the things that God has in store for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
It wasn't only Saul the king who had this kind of experience of installation of new spiritual capacity. The apostles had the same experience after Pentecost. Elisha had a similar experience after seeing Elijah carried away in a chariot of fire. New capabilities were born when they had these encounters.
If you can pray and follow divine principles as revealed in God’s word, you will be amazed at the latent spiritual abilities locked up in your spirit.
I encourage you to make time out to pray these prayers. You will not remain the same in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
